Borrowed vs Bought in 2025

Unread books continue to live on my shelf feeling immense betrayal as I read 12 books borrowed from local libraries via the Libby app in 2025. Total amount saved: $376.78 CAD (not including tax). This is based on the original hardcover and paperback prices.

Three hardcovers and one paperback sit comfortably read amongst books I’ve seemingly ignored.

Sucker Punch by Scaachi Koul
I read Scaachi’s first book, One Day We’ll All Be Dead and None of This Will Matter, in 2017. She is a familiar Canadian personality, and her book title was very much my brand of humour. Sucker Punch definitely describes the aftermath of the love she fought for in her first book and the love that fell about in her second book.

Julie Chan Is Dead by Liann Zhang
Julie Chan Is Dead seemed to stand out before I even knew what it was really about. Another Canadian author, I chose it in hopes it too had some dark humour in this millennial protagonist. Dark, indeed. Humorous, not really. More like posthumous.

Change The Recipe by Jose Andres
The war on hunger has no end in sight. International renowned chef José Andrés speaks on his humble beginnings to his purpose and humanitarian efforts with his team of volunteers collectively known as World Central Kitchen.

Tim – The Official Biography of Avicii by Måns Mosesson
As an Avicii fan, I had to read this biography approved by his family, friends, and close partners-in-crime, in music of course. It was a fast and difficult read, two adjectives not normally used together to describe one’s biography. It’s fast because I already knew his life ended, but I wanted to know what really led to it. And that is what makes it difficult: the why. No one truly knows.
