Reading List 2020 – Part II
The amount of books I’ve read in 2020 more than make up for the goal I didn’t meet in 2019. Both very, very different years lived and both very busy in their own way. I don’t often revisit books unless for reference or if it belongs in a collection, so I decided to make use of the library in a pandemic year. I hadn’t owned a library card in years, so the day I registered for a new one in October 2019 was a good day! By recommendation, I use the Libby app for accessing my library’s system.
In the time of COVID, it is wise to borrow digitally, even though I’ve always had an aversion to acquiring books others have temporarily called their own prior to the pandemic. Have you not seen people lick and flip through pages? Ew. People bring books everywhere and leave them sitting anywhere. I cannot.
I had already met my GoodReads goal of 10 books within the first half of 2020. Of the 24 books read in 2020, 21 were borrowed. This didn’t stop me from buying physical books! They will be read in the coming years!
I definitely recommend the honest works of Eternity Martis, Kwame Onwuachi, and Cathy Park Hong for detailed experiences in racism in Canada and the U.S. Yes, Canada too.
If you miss travelling, you’ll find Sex and Vanity by Kevin Kwan is a start of another trilogy depicting the colourful and complex world of beautiful and wealthy Chinese families. However, if you prefer to travel through time (if only!), then Oona Out of Order by Margarita Montimore will confuse and then capture your curiosity, so much so you won’t be able to put the book down!
Last year was a first for Christmas-themed books, and my first read from the Shopaholic series.
